Jo Robinson
Canine Massage Therapy

Clinical Canine Massage Therapist

Jo Robinson Canine Massage Therapy provides clinical canine massage therapy to rehabilitate soft tissue and muscular injuries in dogs. This treatment is effective for issues commonly seen as limping, lameness, slowing down, stumbling and stiffness.

Additionally, the therapy provides chronic pain management for dogs with orthopaedic conditions like arthritis, hip dysplasia, spondylosis, and also neurological conditions.

It also helps to improve performance and support recovery of sporting dogs such as those who do agility, canicross, flyball (both competing and for fun), in addition to working dogs.

Canine Massage Therapy is suitable for all dog breeds and ages.

Senior dogs often respond particularly well to Canine Massage Therapy.

About Jo

Hello! I’m Jo and I live in Somerset, UK, with my two dogs, Henry (collie x GSD) and Billy (border terrier) (pictured - and yes, they are as cheeky as they look!). I am a Clinical Canine Massage Therapist and member of the Canine Massage Guild.

Both of my dogs have musculoskeletal issues (Henry has hip dysplasia and arthritis, while Billy has intervertebral disc disease) and, as a consequence, they introduced me to the world of Clinical Canine Massage Therapy. I was fascinated and intrigued (and delighted!) at how effective and transformative the treatments were and my boys benefitted hugely from their massage sessions both physically and mentally.

I was a Registered Veterinary Nurse for 10 years and, due to my medical background, massage therapy further piqued my interest. I undertook a massage training day with the Canine Massage Therapy Centre (CMTC) and I was hooked! This lead me to complete the CMTC’s two year Clinical Canine Massage Practitioner Programme (externally accredited by LANTRA Awards). During this time I completed over 1200 hours of learning and practical skills.

I am trained in gait analysis, palpation, body mapping, along with the four disciplines of massage: Swedish, sports, deep tissue and the Lenton Method® of myofascial release.  This allows me to undertake a detailed assessment of each dog I treat and devise an appropriate treatment plan to rehabilitate soft tissue and muscular injuries and issues, and treat dogs with chronic pain due to orthopaedic conditions (such as arthritis, hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, spondylosis amongst other conditions).

The exclusive Lenton Method was the first method to ever be trialled in the world of Clinical Canine Massage Therapy. The trial was carried out with 527 dogs and the results, which showed a significant reduction in pain and an improved quality of life, were published in the British Veterinary Association journal ‘The Vet Record’ in 2021 (https://www.k9-massageguild.co.uk/clinical-canine-massage-significantly-reduces-pain-severity-in-dogs-study-by-university-of-winchester-finds/). We always knew clinical massage therapy is incredibly effective, but this provided the evidence.

Through my work I help to rehabilitate soft tissue and muscular injuries, and those issues commonly seen as limping, lameness, slowing down and stiffness in dogs. This treatment also provides chronic pain management for dogs with orthopaedic conditions like arthritis, hip dysplasia and spondylosis, and also neurological conditions.

I treat all types of dogs, including pet, sporting, working, assistance, senior and disabled dogs, and usually results can be seen within 1 to 3 sessions.

My aim is to build trust with your dog as the treatment very much involves communication between us. I am kind, compassionate and empathetic, and will work with your dog and at their pace to ensure they are comfortable and confident with being touched, and so they can give me the feedback I need during treatment. It is a privilege for me to work as a Canine Massage Therapist and I feel very fortunate to do so.

If you have a dog that has an injury, is recovering from surgery, has an orthopaedic condition, or is maybe struggling with lameness, stiffness, has slowed down on walks, or become less tolerant of being groomed or petted (behaviour changes), please get in touch to see how I can help.

Testimonials

Jo was amazing with Dotty. She was very kind and patient with her. Jo talked soothingly to Dotty which reassured and relaxed her. Dotty loved Jo’s visits and was very pleased to see her, and happily snoozed on Jo’s leg while having treatment. I noticed Dotty’s mood improved and she was happier and in less pain. She’s been playful again which is a delight to see. Her mobility has also improved. I would highly recommend canine massage therapy.

Following treatment with Jo, Rocket is so much happier, enjoying his walks, more inquisitive, wanting to play, rolling around on the rug, and is more alert. On walks he is running around and more agile through his body. It’s lovely to see Rocket feeling more comfortable in his body which is 8 years old and had a lot of wear and tear over the years. Thank you so much. I would definitely recommend canine massage therapy!

Jo responded very kindly to Millie. Her energy was very calm and respectful of Millie. She handled her with care but also managed to access the areas she needed to. During the time of the therapy, Millie’s lameness improved. She was definitely more flexible and playful by the end of the treatments. Her limp was pretty much gone. I would definitely recommend Jo and canine massage therapy.
